Our love labours

In India child labour has been one of the most pernicious practices affecting the social system and under pressure from the activist groups the Government has brought in legislation making it illegal to employ young persons in any business establishment. Will the law work when too often the children are the bread-winners of the family and in some cases , supplement the incomes of the parents ? Foreign buyers who source their procurement from Indian suppliers who manage to keep down the costs of production by saving on labour costs too often insist on a certificate that the goods have not been produced using child labour. These things do not actually work because there is no alternate source of income for the vast majority of the parents who send their children to work in these poorly maintained establishments with ridiculously low wages.
