“Any of a number of theories in particle physics that treat elementary particles (see subatomic particle) as infinitesimal one-dimensional “stringlike” objects rather than dimensionless points in space-time. Different vibrations of the strings correspond to different particles. Introduced in the early 1970s in attempts to describe the strong force, string theories became popular in the 1980s when it was shown that they might provide a fully self-consistent quantum field theory that could describe gravitation as well as the weak, strong, and electromagnetic forces. The development of a unified quantum field theory is a major goal in theoretical particle physics, but inclusion of gravity usually leads to difficult problems with infinite quantities in the calculations. The most self-consistent string theories propose 11 dimensions; 4 correspond to the 3 ordinary spatial dimensions and time, while the rest are curled up and not perceptible.”

Man is a most contradictory creature in the world. An animal with this much internal conflict has not existed on this earth.Man shares a lot of traits with the chimpanzee except the inner contradictions .
Infanticide played a very important role in human evolution. The family evolved primarily because of the need to protect children.Humans became easy prey to predators when they shifted from the forest to the savannahs, which deprived them of the option of climbing trees to flee predators.Only because of this protection were women able to give birth in shorter intervals than apes. This rapid reproduction is one of the reasons why humans dominate the world , not the apes.
Chastity of women is important in the family system because man does not end up protecting somebody else’s child.

The human brain does not have a specific neural region responsible for mystical and religious experiences, a new study finds.Mystical experience activates more than a dozen different areas of the brain at once. One of the regions ,called the caudeate nucleus, has been responsible for positive emotions such as romantic love, happiness and maternal love.

On 16th June the International Astronomical Union mooted a proposal for the definition of the word ‘planet’ to end the confusion whether Pluto is a planet or not.But their solution, which assigns Pluto and neighbours to a subset of planets called plutons is creating more confusion.
Pluton is already taken by geology .Pluton in geology is a large bubble of molten rock that solidifies underground. Confusion worse confounded !

Pluto loses its status of a planet once again.Two-thirds of the Earth’s size ,Pluto’s classification as a planet had to be cancelled due to the majority view among 2500 astronomers that many objects of the same size and distance had been discovered in Kuiper’s belt in the 1990’s.

Anti-matter is a fundamental particle of regular matter with its electrical charge reversed..The common proton has an anti-matter counter-part called anti-proton and likewise the electron has an anti-matter counter-part called positron.Anti-matter particles are produced in high-speed collisions.
A solar flare collides with a high-energy proton it can form a type of nytrogen that has too many protons relative to the number of neutrons and the nucleus is made unstable causing a positron to be emitted to stabilise the situation. When the positrons hit an electron they produce energy.
After the Big Bang and the subsequent cooling, matter and anti-matter were in almost equal amounts but the matter was slightly higher and the residual amount of matter was left to form our universe.

Hubble finds that Pluto has three moons orbiting Pluto.Pluto is the only object beyond Neptune known to have more than one moon. One of the moons, provisionally named S/2005 P1, lies about 48,000 kilometers from Pluto and has an estimated diameter of 56 km. The other newly discovered moon, dubbed S/2005 P2, lies about 64,000 km from Pluto and has a diameter of about 48 km. By comparison, Charon, Pluto’s previously known moon, is 19,600 km from the planet and has a diameter of 1,270 km, about half that of Pluto

The Reality Carnival(Cliff Pickover) has come out with this interesting piece:Physicists discover that the structure of a brain cell is the same as the universe.Together they suggest the surprisingly similar patterns found in vastly different natural phenomena.

The cosmos is a gigantic fly wheel making 10,000 revolutions a
minute. Man is a sick fly taking a dizzy ride on it. Religion is the
theory that the wheel was designed and set spinning to give him the
ride.

Controversy: Benjamin Weikart states that Hitler is a direct product of Darwinism. The Nazies apparently relied on Darwin’s use of the word “selection” to justify their rabid anti-semitism.Ethnic cleansing ,so-called eugenics, racism -they long preceded Darwin and it is wrong to say that Darwin’s selection implied any such thing.Selection as Darwin meant, was “natural” selection .
A quote mentioned by a commentator is very apt in this connection :
“I believe today that I am acting in the sense of the Almighty Creator. By warding off the Jews I am fighting for the Lord’s work.”
[Adolph Hitler, Speech, Reichstag, 1936]
We now know where Hitler is deriving his justification for the elimination of Jews from.
